Ena Mill in Atherton planned expansion
On Wednesday 30th March, Jenny and Louise were invited by the owners of Ena Mill in Atherton to go and view their expansion plans for the site.
Ena Mill is a 5 storey historic building, of which currently only the ground floor is open to the public for shopping. Greatdays have been sending groups there for a couple of years now. There are a large number of concessions in this area selling an attractive variety of clothing, footwear bedding and gifts. Groups are made very welcome; they are greeted on arrival and even given shopping vouchers to use in the store. Coach drivers are invited in and given a complimentary coffee while their passengers browse.
The next 18 months will see significant redevelopment of this listed building. The second floor which is the same foot print as the ground floor, will house a 300 seat restaurant as well as many additional shopping concessions. Escalators will carry visitors from the main entrance to the first floor and shopping trollies are available for their convenience.
The owners Simon and Jon are particularly excited at the prospect of restoring the Victorian engine room into a large function room with a stage for groups who want a special dining experience. Ultimately there will be a ground floor restaurant concession and on the upper floors a residential retirement complex.
An area of land opposite the building has been acquired and will be converted into a dedicated coach park, to expand the number of parking spaces at the site. The expansion will create 200 jobs locally and will provide a dedicated one stop shop for groups in the future.
Look out for a new day trip featuring Ena Mill, coming soon!
