Day 1
Travel to your hotel
If time and route permit, why not travel to your hotel via the Cotswolds to see some of the picturesque market towns and villages.
Day 2
Steam train ride and Cheltenham
This morning we travel to Toddington station for a steam train ride on the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway. The 35-minute journey towards Cheltenham passes through delightful Cotswolds scenery with views over the Vale of Evesham to the distant Malvern Hills. Specifically designed as a pleasure health resort for wealthy visitors, Cheltenham Spa is an elegant town with many of the regency, architectural and heritage features still to be seen today.
Day 3
Gloucester, its Cathedral and Historic Docks
Today we travel to Gloucester. Our first stop is the 11th century Gloucester Cathedral, where a volunteer guide will reveal many of the stories and secrets of this extraordinary building. Of special interest is the medieval Great Cloister, famous for its fan vaulting. The cloisters have also appeared in the Harry Potter films and on TV in Sherlock, Wolf Hall and Doctor Who. The historic Gloucester Docks, just a short walk away, offers a dramatic waterfront, converted warehouses and an array of restaurants and bars. Next door is Gloucester Quays with more than 60 outlet shops.
Day 4
Tour of the Cotswolds
Today we take one of the classic English tours around the villages and small market towns of the Gloucestershire Cotswolds. The area, which is centred on the Cotswold Hills, and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is best known for the famous Cotswold stone, a yellow limestone which, when weathered, becomes a delightful honey or golden colour. Our route is likely to include Shipston-on-Stour, Chipping Campden, Moreton-in-Marsh, Broadway, and Stow-on-the-Wold.
