Leicester – More than a Premier League Football Team!
Martin Slater, National Sales Manager, recently visited Leicester for a weekend break to see what else the city and some of the surrounding area had to offer other than a Premier League Champion football team!
Staying at the centrally located 4* Mercure Leicester The Grand Hotel, this fine Victorian building has been modernised to create a stylish hotel. All the staff were welcoming and whilst I only ate breakfast in the hotel, this was excellent and very well presented. The hotel is ideal for those looking a for a central base to explore some of the attractions on foot, such as The Cathedral (the final resting place of King Richard 111) and the Jewry Wall Museum.
A visit to the market is a must! I have never seen fruit and veg so well presented and tempting. The market is also home to the famous ‘Lineker’ family. It is also worth having a look at the exterior of the Town Hall plus the Guild Hall, the latter which dates back over 600 years and is very close to the Cathedral.
I recommend some time to visit the surrounding countryside and a visit to the quaint village of Hallaton is not be to missed, famous for its ‘Bottle Kicking’ and the ‘Hard Pie Scramble’ tradition. Afterwards, I took a leisurely drive through ‘The Vale of Belvoir’ to Melton Mowbray, which needs no introduction.
I was pleasantly surprised at what the city of Leicester and the area had to offer, so please do contact us if you are interested in us building an itinerary to suit your requirements, or why not take a look at our fabulous day trip – A Taste of Leicestershire.
