Tucked away between the West Midlands and the Welsh border, Shropshire is both a hidden gem and a very special place to visit. Day 2
Shrewsbury, walking tour and cruise on the River Severn
Today we travel to Shrewsbury, one of England’s finest medieval market towns. After a walking tour led by a local guide there’s free time to explore the quaint narrow streets and hidden alleyways. In the afternoon we take a relaxing 45-minute cruise (with commentary) around the picturesque River Severn loop to see the town from the water.
Day 3
Ludlow and Severn Valley Railway
This morning we take a leisurely drive over the Shropshire Hills via Bishops Castle and Knighton to the thriving medieval market town of Ludlow. Poet John Betjeman described the town as “probably the loveliest town in England”. We then travel to Kidderminster for a ride behind a steam locomotive on the Severn Valley Railway. The 16-mile run to Bridgnorth follows the River Severn through glorious and unspoilt countryside. On arrival there’s free time to explore the town, possibly taking the steepest inland funicular railway between the lower and upper town.
