Explore Munich's Christmas Markets
With over 20 different markets in Munich, there is something for everyone. Start with exploring the Markets at the famous Marienplatz with the impressive town hall in the background, Munich’s largest markets. The gothic Town Hall, next to the traditional wooden huts, creates a spectacular setting for the centre of Munich’s Christmas markets.
While you stroll around the markets, you can enjoy the festive season celebration with a special Alpine Christmas Market concert playing in the background. Christmas shopping calls for Christmas markets, and Munich has just the right atmosphere and the right spirit to go with them. You will find everything from ingredients for special recipes to various decorative art and craft items as well as local delicacies. An unmistakable smell enchants Munich’s centre, a mixture of gingerbread, potato pancake, fried sausage, roasted almonds, and mulled wine. Another Day at the Markets
Why not visit the popular ‘Kripperlmarkt’, one of the largest in Germany to specialise in cribs and other nativity accessories. The historical event has been part of Munich’s traditional Christmas Markets since the middle of the 18th century. Those markets have all you need to create an authentic manger. Each lovingly chosen and carefully packed item, being a reminder of childhood, when the manger under the Christmas tree symbolized a world of mystery and wonder. Christmas mangers, cribs and nativity scenes have long been a tradition in Munich. Or chose from one of the other 20 markets in Munich all dotted around the city, including a Medieval Christmas Market with gospel singing at the Wittelsbacher Platz.
