Munich is the modern, cosmopolitan city with the big heart of a village!
Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful squares in Germany is Marienplatz Square. In the heart of Munich, it is home to the Old and New Town Halls. Head there to watch the glockenspiel which performs twice a day. Reenacting stories from Bavaria’s past, this crowd-drawing clock is a huge part of the city’s identity. There is so much to do and see in the Bavarian capital.

Another special highlight of Munich is the Hofbräuhaus Beer Hall. Enjoy a stein of beer and traditional Bavarian food. Some evening see performances of traditional music and it’s always an atmospheric place to spend an evening. Explore the Viktualienmarkt, a market of produce and cooked food – a wonderful place to stop for lunch with the locals. Visit the iconic Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), whose green dome towers can be seen for miles around.
A City with Incredible Accessibility
Easily accessible with public transport, the Olympic Park is a wonderful excursion. Standing at 291m, the Olympic Tower offers tremendous views over the city and the surrounding area. Inside there is also a small but enjoyable rock and roll museum hosting an array of memorabilia. In the summer, the Olympic Park is a wonderful place to stroll and relax.
Bavaria and Alternative Excursions
Plenty of additional excursions are available. Venture further into Bavaria and perhaps wander through charming villages, glistening lakes or the famous castles of King Ludwig II. In winter, the square becomes a bundle of festive cheer as the Christmas markets appear. Perhaps consider visiting during December for a festive treat.

Explore the Bavarian Capital
Join an optional guided tour to explore sights including the renowned Frauenkirche, Marienplatz, the Olympic Park, the BMW Museum. A trip to the English Garden, Munich’s very own piece of paradise, should not be missed. Situated between the city centre and the Isar River, it is Munich’s largest park area, covering 417 hectares. You will find two of Munich’s most popular beer gardens in the park. A visit should definitely not be missed as you can sample traditional Bavarian beers!

Browse the stalls of the Viktualienmarkt, the city’s famous food market. It is a feast for all the senses and there is simply everything on offer – from traditional Bavarian specialities to exotic delicacies. Special guided tours of the market, including samples of the produce are possible. Munich is also home to some excellent museums, such as the Deutsches Museum, the world’s largest science and technology museum. Alternatively visit Nymphenburg Palace, where King Ludwig was born, and the Marstallmuseum containing many of King Ludwig’s elaborate carriages.
Venture Out of Town
Visit Herrenchiemsee New Palace, located on an island in the middle of Bavaria’s largest lake, Lake Chiemsee. King Ludwig’s ‘unfinished palace’, it was built in the style of Versailles. After a short crossing to the island (approx. 15 minutes), an optional guided tour of the Palace will show you the Great Hall of Mirrors, the State Staircase and Royal Bedrooms. Return via the beautiful spa town of Bad Tölz, which lies on the River Isar. The town is famous for its Boy’s Choir.
