Day 2
Oxford, walking tour and Christ Church College
This morning we travel into the centre of Oxford for a 1½ hour guided walking tour of the historic city’s most famous sights and hidden treasures. We go inside the architecturally stunning Christ Church College to see Christopher Wren’s Tom Tower. Our tour includes the Great Hall, quadrangles, the Cathedral and grand staircase. And if all of this looks familiar, it’s because it was used as the setting for ‘Hogwarts’ in the Harry Potter films. After the tour there’s free time to explore the city, perhaps visiting the University of Oxford Botanic Garden, the oldest botanic garden in the UK. Check in to ‘Oxford Castle Unlocked’ and let costumed characters take you on a journey through the castle’s past as a prison.
Day 3
Blenheim Palace and the Oxfordshire Cotswolds
Today we head out into the Oxfordshire Cotswolds to visit Blenheim Palace, home to the 11th Duke of Marlborough, and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. The 2,100 acres of beautiful parkland were landscaped by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. In the afternoon why not take a scenic drive through the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, local highlights include the Georgian town of Woodstock, the lively market town of Chipping Norton, and Burford, a pretty medieval town with exclusive shops and galleries.
