Portsmouth, home of Navy Command HQ, and neighbouring Gosport are buzzing with attractions showcasing well-known naval feats, including the raising of the Mary Rose, the D-Day landings, and submarine intelligence through WWII and into the Cold War. On this tour we also have the option to step back in time and meet the residents of a 17th-century village.

Portsmouth: The Mary Rose & D-Day Story
Today we experience The Mary Rose, Henry VIII’s warship – lost for 437 years. Since the historic raising in 1982 the ship has been painstakingly dried and guests are now able to see The Mary Rose in all her majestic glory. There are also 10,000+ artefacts that were recovered from the wreck on display. Discover this Tudor-era time capsule for yourself.
The brand new D-Day Story is a must-see when visiting Portsmouth. The extraordinary story of France’s liberation from Germany is told in three parts; Preparation, D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, Legacy and the Overlord Embroidery. There is also a museum shop and cafe to explore.
Whilst located at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, the Mary Rose is a separate attraction. Groups wishing to visit other attractions within the Dockyard itself must purchase an additional ticket.
Day 3
Gosport: Royal Navy Submarine Museum and ‘Little Woodham’ 17th-Century Village
HMS Alliance is Britain’s only remaining World War II submarine and stands as a memorial to the 5,300 British submariners who have lost their lives in service. Climb aboard and take a journey through every decade of her service. Groups can walk through at their own pace and ask questions to the guides on-hand, most of whom are former submariners. In the museum there are also permanent displays. There is a small kiosk on site and a larger cafe at the Explosions! Museum if required for lunch (not included).
After lunch we call into ‘Little Woodham’, a volunteer led historical re-enactment of 17th-century village life in rural England, where villagers going about their daily life and visitors are able to immerse themselves in the hustle and bustle of the community.
Guests wishing to return to Portsmouth Historic Dockyards instead of ‘Little Woodham’ can do at a supplement.

All attractions apart from the D-Day Story are roughly a 5 minute walk to the attraction from the coach park.
Due to the nature of the attraction the 17th Century Village involves woodland terrain.
HMS Alliance is cramped and has uneven surfaces. There is a lift and limited wheel-chair access.
