The historic city of Reims is in the heart of France’s Champagne region. Its highlight is the imposing and altogether magnificent Gothic Cathédrale Notre Dame. Rising high above the city, this UNESCO World Heritage Site has seen dozens of rulers commence their reigns. In fact, Reims is famous for this, becoming known as ‘The Coronation City’.
During Advent, charming markets fill the square in front of the cathedral, emitting delicious aromas and a cosy glow. You could easily spend hours wandering among the stalls, soaking in the festive Champagne atmosphere and shopping for gifts. There can scarcely be many better places to do your Christmas shopping.
Perhaps take a tour to illuminate the many fascinating facets of this town: its Roman remains, art-deco cafes and flourishing fine-dining scene.
The world’s most expensive avenue
Both in Reims and in delightful Épernay, there are many famous and extravagant champagne houses including Lanson, Mumm, Taittinger and Moët & Chandon. Enjoy tours of the caves, notable for their vaulted ceilings and vast amounts of bottles.
Épernay’s ‘Avenue de Champagne’ is said to be the most expensive avenue in the world, more so than the Champs-Élysées in Paris because of the millions of bottles of champagne stored in the miles of chalk cellars beneath it. Visit some of the most famous champagne houses and sample this delicious beverage.
This group tour combines wonderful Christmas markets in a beautiful town with one of France’s most luxurious exports! You’re sure to feel in the Christmas spirit in Champagne, as you toast the festive season with a glass of bubbly! Don’t miss out on this wonderful Champagne Christmas group trip!
