Ironbridge Gorge Museum and Blists Hill

As the birthplace of the industrial revolution, and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986, Ironbridge is one of the wonders of the world. We start at the Museum of the Gorge, setting the scene with a giant 12-metre model and a film explaining how the area became the most industrious place in the world. Close by is the Iron Bridge, completed in 1779. Take a stroll onto the bridge then explore the food stores, craft boutiques and eateries nestled alongside the beautiful River Severn. In the afternoon we travel the short distance to Blists Hill Victorian Town. Step back in time to experience the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the Victorian age.

Severn Valley Railway and visit to Ludlow

Today we travel on the famous Severn Valley Railway. We join the train at Bridgnorth for the 16-mile run to Kidderminster, following the River Severn through glorious and unspoilt countryside. In the afternoon we visit the thriving medieval market town of Ludlow, described by poet John Betjeman as “probably the loveliest town in England with its hill of Georgian houses ascending from the River Teme to the great tower of the cross-shaped church, rising behind a classic market building.”
