However it is also home to hidden spectacular caverns, the highest Opera House in the UK, heritage railways and a ‘plague village’ with a noble and tragic history. On this tour we discover these hidden gems – perfect for groups who may have already visited the area and wish to return. This tour features the new attraction ‘Buxton Crescent Experience’.

Day 1

Day 2
Buxton Walking Tour, Buxton Crescent Experience and Poole’s Cavern
We begin today with a visit to Buxton. On our one-hour walking tour we will discover secrets and stories relating to the famous spa town, as our guide shows us the sights including the Edwardian Opera House, Pavilion Gardens, Buxton Crescent and Devonshire Dome. Next we visit The Buxton Crescent Experience for a guided tour. This innovative indoor attraction that is set within the beautiful Grade I listed Crescent building and consists of nine themed rooms that explore a period spanning more than 10,000 years and explains the history of Buxton. In the afternoon, we visit Poole’s Cavern, a natural wonder of the Peak
District. Our expert guide takes us beneath the earth to explore the vast limestone caverns with crystal stalactites millions of years old.
Day 3
Eyam and Peak Rail
Today we visit the picturesque village of Eyam and its museum. Here we discover the moving story of life in the ‘plague village’, including the tragic tales of people who sacrificed their lives to protect their neighbours. Next we join the Peak Rail at South Station Rowsley to experience the delight of travelling through the Derbyshire countryside by train. We make a return journey to Matlock along part of the old Midland Railway line which ran from Manchester Central and London St Pancras.
Day 4
Return home
On the way home your group may choose to visit The Great British Car Journey, a new attraction near Derwent Valley Mill. The attraction features over 100 cars dating from the 1930s to the 2005 when MG Rover went into administration. Cars include Austin 7s, Minis, an iconic Morris Million as well as many Rovers, Fords, Vauxhalls and Hillmans (supplement on request).
