A Festive Galician Fairytale – Christmas in Vigo
In Galicia, North-West Spain, there is a magical place where, at Christmas time, Vigo, the largest port city in Spain, transforms into the ultimate festive extravaganza. Every day, at 6 p.m., more than 10 million of LED lights and around 500 Christmas trees, makes the night come alive in around 350 of the 1700 streets of the city. Situated at the heart of the Rías Baixas, Vigo is known as “The Atlantic Gate”. The old town is a stunning, lively area of streets and paths that meander towards the sea. From the impressive Praza da Constitución square to the banks of the Berbés or Rúa da Pescadería , where you can taste the city’s famous oysters, the “casco vello” is truly worth a visit, and also the perfect place for wine and tapas. Also, why not take a stroll to Castro Fotress to see beautiful gardens, ornate water features and enjoy city-scape views. Furthermore, throughout the city, there will be plenty of Christmas market stands featuring artificial snow cannons and artisanal crafts will help revellers get into the holiday spirit. Also those with a sweet tooth be sure to enjoy an colourful assortment of dried fruit and nuts coated in chocolate as well as a traditional hot chocolate and some delightful churros.
The Cíes Islands & The Atlantic Gate

The Cíes archipelago is made up of three islands: Monte Agudo, O Faro and San Martiño. Vigo’s western location means that it is easy enough to also visit the Portuguese city of Porto as well as Spanish pilgrim city of Santiago de Compostela.

Day 1
Travel to Vigo
Upon arrival at Vigo airport, you will be met and transferred to the hotel in the centre of Vigo. If you are travelling to Porto or Santiago de Compostela airport, enjoy a guided tour of the city before travelling to Vigo.
Day 2
The Cíes Islands
Today why not enjoy an optional private boat tour from the port of Vigo to the Cíes Islands (half or full day excursion). The Cíes Islands have always dazzled, which is why the Romans named them “the islands of the Gods”. A unique ecosystem, teeming with marine and terrestrial life has been created in this place, where fresh and salt water converge. Endless beaches with fine sand and almost-clear blue water will draw you into this paradise on earth known as the Atlantic Islands.
Day 3
Vigo Christmas Lights
At night, we will do a guided tour of the city, to admire and enjoy the worldfamous “Christmas Lights”. Vigo’s “Christmas Lights” are among the most important ever seen in any city. More than 10 million of LED lights and around 500 Christmas trees will turn the night into day in around 350 of the 1700 streets of the city. Day 4
Return to the UK
It is time to say goodbye to Vigo, transfer to your preferred airport and travel back to the UK.
