Italy is home to so many fascinating sights and cities it is sometimes difficult to fit everything into one visit when travelling by coach, however there is a better way; ‘Discover Italy by Rail’.
With so many cheap flights travelling directly and regularly into all the major Italian cities from the UK, it has never been easier to discover the Italian Peninsula at your own speed and to your own requirements. In cooperation with Trenitalia, exploring Italy with ease and freedom has never been more achievable with groups of all sizes. Trenitalia has further advanced its role as a means of travel for tourists and locals alike. Mobility is key sticking point for many when travelling abroad and one of the most complex challenges facing modern society but it has been proven that travelling by rail is one the most sustainable ways to travel. By providing connections between the country’s three ports of access (airports, railway stations, ports), the rail system in Italy is by far one of the most advanced in Europe. The trains link just about every town or city of any size, centre to centre. Driving & parking in Italian cities is a nightmare and the high-speed trains are now faster, more convenient & more relaxing.
As well as the suggested cities, we can book an overnight sleeper train is often the best way to travel long distances, for example from Milan or Rome to Sicily, or from Venice or Milan to Naples. It’s an experience in itself that’s effectively faster than flying, and saves a hotel bill too. Italian overnight trains have several types of couchette & sleeper. Some also have seats, but a couchette or sleeper is recommended, as you can lie flat and sleep in a safely-locked compartment.

Milan
Discover Milan; Italy’s fashion capital, financial powerhouse and most vibrant city. Located in the Northern Italy, in the Lombardy region, a short distance from the magnificent Lakes, the city is a hub of vibrancy and innovation. The splendid Duomo Cathedral is one of the city’s most iconic sights and the Piazza in front is classed as the heart of Milan. The ornate façade impresses from afar, whereas the interior is a sight to behold! Opposite the Duomo, is Milan’s fashion home, the outstanding glass-domed Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, . Here, you’ll find Italy’s most renowned clothes houses, the designer names abound – Gucci, Dolce and Gabanna, Versace, Valentino to name but a few. Also, you can also see Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Last Supper’, a 15th-century mural and one of the world’s most famous paintings, can be found in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie.

Turin
Turin, the ancient capital of Italy and home to FIAT cars and Juventus FC. Explore the cultural and historical sights of this beautiful city. Sights include the large Piazza Castello with Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Madama, the elegant Via Roma, which links Piazza Castello with the eighteenth-century Piazza San Carlo, best known as the lounge of the city. By coach we will be able to reach the Parco del Valentino, with its medieval hamlet and Piazza Vittorio Veneto, where we can admire the River Po, the Basilica di Superga and the hills upon the city.

Venice
The mention of Venice conjures images of gondolas gliding gracefully along serene canals. pass by the Doge’s Palace, St Mark’s Basilica, the Campanile and the Bridge of Sighs. There’s free time to explore the narrow streets, take a ride on a gondola along the Grand Canal, and visit the Rialto Bridge why not explore beyond Venice’s arcade lined squares and canals? Perhaps join a boat tour to the stunning islands of Murano and Burano. See glassblowers use traditional techniques to create masterpieces on Murano. The glassblowers were originally sent to Murano because Venetian’s feared the craft would start a great fire. On Burano, amble past brightly coloured houses. Once, the intricate lace made on this island was the ultimate fashion statement. The lace is painstakingly detailed and equally breath-taking.
