A Grand Tour of Wales
Wales is a country of contrasts, from picturesque Snowdonia and the Gower Peninsula, to coal and slate mines. In this Wales tour we have selected some of the very best attractions that Wales has to offer. These include Portmeirion, Caernarfon Castle, the Ffestiniog Railway, Cardiff Bay, and St Fagans National History Museum.
Visit the unique village of Portmeirion with spectacular gardens and architectural gems, ride on the Steam-hauled Ffestiniog, and admire Caernarfon Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and also one of the most famous castles in the world. We then travel south to the buzzing cities of Cardiff and Swansea, and the natural beauty of the Gower Penninsula.

Portmeirion, Ffestiniog Railway and Trefriw Woollen Mills
Created by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975, the unique and altogether magnificent Italianate village of Portmeirion combines spectacular gardens and architectural surprises at every turn. In the afternoon we take a ride on the narrow gauge, steam-hauled Ffestiniog Railway for the 13½ mile journey from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog, the slate capital of Wales. At the family-run Trefriw Woollen Mills there’s an opportunity to see the weavers and traditional machinery at work, and buy traditional Welsh woollen souvenirs.

Caernarfon, Conwy and Llandudno
Caernarfon Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the most famous castles in the world. We then travel to Conwy, with its magnificent 13th century castle, the ‘Smallest House in Britain’, and Plas Mawr, an Elizabethan town house (entry not included, supplement on request). Our final stop is Llandudno, a seaside resort that retains much of its Victorian charm.

Next we head to the Gower Heritage Centre where our guide for the afternoon takes us on a Mill Tour, followed by a 2 hour coach tour, to point out the highlights of Gower: from the heights of Cefn Bryn and the historic “Arthur’s Stone” to the breath-taking beauty of Rhossili beach and the Worm’s Head.
