Day 1
Depart the UK, overnight in Dublin
Take the afternoon ferry crossing from Holyhead to Dublin, then a short drive to your hotel in time for dinner.
Day 2
Travel to Donegal via The National Famine Museum and Sligo
This morning we travel to Strokestown Park. Here we discover the parallel lives of landlord and tenants at the National Famine Museum, and have the opportunity to wander through the estate’s beautiful gardens and woodlands. There is also time for lunch at Woodlands café on-site. We also call into the pretty town of Sligo en-route to our hotel.
Day 3
Slieve League Cliffs and Glencolmcille Folk Village
Travel via Killybegs to view the spectacular Slieve League cliffs, the highest in Europe at 1,972 ft above the sea. Next, we travel to Glencolmcille Folk Village, this thatched-roof replica of a rural village offers a glimpse into daily life as it was during past centuries.
Day 4
Glenveagh National Park and Lifford Courthouse
Today, visit Glenveagh National Park, a remote and hauntingly beautiful wilderness in the heart of Donegal, enjoy a guided tour of Glenveagh Castle. Afternoon visit to Lifford Courthouse to step back in time for a ‘Live’ tour of Donegal’s original county jail!
Day 5
Hanna’s Hats Tour and Donegal Castle
(Coach driver’s rest day)
This morning, we split the group and visit local attractions Hanna Hats and Donegal Castle, both in walking distance from our hotel. Hanna Hats are a family run business founded in 1924, the workshop and fabric store have a rustic charm. Donegal Castle fell into ruin in the twentieth century, but was brought back to its former glory in the 1990s. Currently, a suite of information panels illuminates the chequered history of the castle and its disparate owners.
Day 6
Belleek Pottery and Return to Dublin
This morning, enjoy a fascinating factory tour of the world famous Belleek China Pottery, where you can watch the different stages of the pottery making process. Continue to Dublin for final overnight stop.
Day 7
Return to the UK
After an early breakfast, take the ferry and return home.
