Grachtengordel is undoubtedly the most charming part of the city, and the perfect place to stroll and absorb your surroundings. Perhaps cruise along its lattice of waterways, under little humpback bridges, overlooked by street upon street of handsome seventeenth-century canal houses. The architecture in Amsterdam is absolutely fascinating as well as the mixture of 17th century canal houses with UNESCO status, the works of Dutch architect Berlage and the architectural movement at the Amsterdam School are renowned for their innovative new projects in the business district of the Zuidas and the neighborhood Eastern Docklands.
Amsterdam; A Cultural Dream
Amsterdam is awash with world renowned museums. Art lovers can visit the Van Gogh Museum or the Rijksmuseum with its wonderful collection of Rembrandt paintings. A engaging yet haunting attraction is the Anne Frank House, which houses the young girl’s powerful diary. Other attractions include Gassan Diamonds, Heineken Experience or Madame Tussaud’s. A subtle but fascinating city, there’s always something to discover.
A city to relax in
From treasure trove boutiques to unusual facades and stalls of rainbow tulips, Amsterdam is bursting with little delights, why not combine the city break in Spring to also see the tulips at Keukenhof. When your feet begin to ache, sit back and relax in one of the many canal side cafes and restaurants. Furthermore, you can combine this leisurely exploration with lunch or dinner as you cruise the city.
An Amsterdam city break is one of the must-do European destinations.

Suggested Excursions
Amsterdam Sightseeing
Enjoy a free visit and tour of the famous Gassan Diamonds factory where you can see the process of diamond cutting and polishing. Museum fans are spoilt for choice with great exhibitions at Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank’s House. For a slightly unusual museum experience, head to the interactive Heineken experience to tour the original brewery and sip perfectly chilled beer. For the energetic, explore this unique city on foot with its famous tree-lined canals and preserved 17th Century gabled houses. View the city from its famed canals and perhaps enjoy a lunch or dinner cruise.
Alternative Amsterdam
Stray away from the canals and experience a different side of Amsterdam. Instead of the typical tourist experience, why not enjoy a visit to Castle Muiderslot, Naarden, and a behind the scenes tour of your chosen theatre, concert hall or opera house? For a completely new perspective, take to the A’DAM lookout sky deck for panoramic views. For further thrills and unrivalled views, swing 100m above the city on Europe’s highest swing.
Local Excursions
An excursion to Volendam, a pretty Dutch fishing village north of Amsterdam, where the locals still dress in traditional costume. There are plenty of tourist shops and restaurants (try the local smoked eels!) and the possibility to take a local ferry to the nearby island of Marken. Just a short drive from Amsterdam enjoy a cruise and steam train round trip, with a coastal cruise from Enkhuizen to Medemblik and a steam train journey from Medemblik to Hoorn. Be part of a vibrant and stunning living and working community that dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries at Zaanse Schans. It’s packed with wooden windmills, barns, houses and museums and built in the typically Dutch wooden architectural style, relocated here piece by piece since 1961.
Seasonal Events
Amsterdam has a number of events in the local area. In Spring time the famous Keukenhof Gardens shows off its fantastic flowers (mid March- mid May). Keukenhof is only one hour’s drive from Amsterdam and is a wonderful day out. In the winter Amsterdam hosts its annual Light Festival. From December through January the city is awash with light. Walk or sail alongside light sculptures created by leading artists and beautifully illuminated buildings and bridges.
