Naval Portsmouth and Restoration Manchester
The Greatdays UK team have had a busy month. Last week Katharine, our UK and Ireland Product Manager, travelled to Portsmouth and Gosport to learn more about the area’s rich naval heritage and how groups can discover this for themselves. Highlights included a harbour tour of Portsmouth Historic Dockyards, marvelling at over 10,000 Tudor artefacts recovered from the Mary Rose which is now on full display, and the newly opened D-Day Story. In neighbouring Gosport we discovered the Royal Naval Submarine Museum, where guests can climb aboard a submarine and see what life was like for the submariners who served on her. Whilst in the area Katharine also visited a very sunny Bournemouth to inspect some of the great ’group’ hotels in the area.
Closer to home, Katharine, Jenny and Paul spent a day visiting some of Manchester’s quirkier attractions, including the stunning Gorton Monastery, where we were treated to a delicious afternoon tea. Other attractions visited included the Police Museum, Victoria Baths and Elizabeth Gaskell’s House. Keep your eyes peeled for our new ‘Restoration Manchester’ tour where you can learn more about how some of these near derelict buildings have been lovingly restored – coming soon!
