‘O, had I but followed the arts!’ William Shakespeare
This week Paul, Chantelle and Katharine visited Stratford-upon-Avon – we kicked off our trip with a backstage tour of the Royal Shakespeare Company. We learnt about staging, hair and make-up, and had great fun trying on virtual costumes at the interactive exhibition ‘The Play’s the Thing’. We also visited Shakespeare’s Houses where we learned about the Bard’s childhood and discovered words he introduced to the English language, such as Bedazzled, Swagger and Zany! Other highlights included the sculpture gardens at New Place and exploring Anne Hathaway’s picturesque cottage.
We then drove through the beautiful Cotswolds village of Broadway (where we suffered an unfortunate flat tyre outside 5* Hotel The Lygon Arms) on our way to Blenheim Palace. We explored the decadent home of The Duke of Marlborough (also birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill) and enjoyed a guided tour which focused on the priceless art & tapestries, intricate furniture and Chinese porcelain on display. We would highly recommend these attractions for our customers.
