Perfect Provence
Dawn from our Sales team and Alexandra from our European Operations department have just sampled three nights in Provence in South of France with its beautiful countryside replete with fabled fields of lavender, scarlet poppies, sunflowers, orchards and vineyards.
Under beautiful November sunshine, we started in Avignon, visiting the Palais des Papes where Popes lived in the 14th century, instead of Rome. Another must visit is the medieval broken bridge, Pont Saint Benezet, more famously known by the song ‘Sur le Pont d’Avignon’.
Our next stop was Nimes, an important destination in Roman times. It has a wonderful arena and you must climb the spiral staircase at the Tour Magne (just don’t look down)! Enroute to Nimes we stopped at the incredible Roman aqueduct of the Pont du Gard, an unmissable landmark of the area.
Onwards to Arles where the cobbled streets and natural beauty explains why Van Gogh lived there for so long while painting some of his most famous pictures. Les Baux de Provence has spectacular views from the castle and its winding cobbled streets lead to the quirky traditional shops selling local handmade gifts.
Our last stop was Aix-en-Provence where the atmosphere was buzzing with the Christmas Markets in full swing. Watch famous Provencal Christmas figures known as Santons being made, visit the Archbishop Palace and marvel at the Paul Cezanne studio, these should all be on you must do list!
We came home after a whirlwind few days, thinking did that really just happen… Fortunately we took photos just to prove it really did…
