Day 2
Wallace Monument, Stirling Castle and Old Town
This morning we visit the world famous National Wallace Monument, built in 1861 to commemorate Sir William Wallace who led the struggle for Scottish independence at the end of the 13th century. There’s a walk and steps to negotiate but the effort is worthwhile for the spectacular views over the city and to Stirling Castle. We then travel to Stirling Castle where a private tour transports us into the rich world of Scotland’s royalty in the 1500s and how it might have looked as the childhood home of Mary Queen of Scots. In the afternoon there’s free time to explore the nooks and crannies of Stirling’s historic ‘Old Town’.
Day 3
Edinburgh, walking tour and free time
We travel via the Forth Road Bridge (or return by it) to Edinburgh where a local guide will take us on a walking tour that includes the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. In the afternoon there’s free time to explore Edinburgh’s Old Town, or perhaps indulge in some retail therapy along the famous Princes Street.
Day 4
Bannockburn and The Kelpies
A morning visit to the Battle of Bannockburn Visitor Centre where state-of-the-art 3D technology brings you face-to-face with the famous 1314 medieval battle. In the afternoon we visit The Kelpies (mythical water horses). Photographs can only hint at just how magnificent these 30-metre high sculptures actually are.
