Cheshire’s Great Houses
Cheshire is well known for its country estates and majestic houses. In this Cheshire Houses short break we visit two of the best: Lyme Park and Tatton Park. Lyme Park is a great estate with a lavishly decorated house and fine gardens, and Tatton Park, an 18th Century House, opulently decorated with a grand array of antiques and furniture. We also visit the architectural conundrum that’s Little Moreton Hall, Britain’s most famous timber-framed, moated Tudor manor house, and Bramall Hall in Stockport.

Day 1
Travel to your hotel and Little Moreton Hall
Arrive in Cheshire and enjoy an afternoon visit to Little Moreton Hall, Britain’s most famous timber-framed, moated Tudor manor house. The house, with its drunkenly reeling south front, Elizabethan long gallery and Great Hall has defied architectural logic for more than 500 years.
Day 2
Lyme Park and Bramall Hall
This morning we visit Lyme Park, a great estate with a lavishly decorated house and fine gardens, best known as ‘Pemberley’ in the 1995 adaptation of ‘Pride and Prejudice’. After lunch we travel to Stockport to Bramall Hall, one of England’s most striking black and white timber framed buildings. The guided tour of the Hall offers unique insights into the families and servants who lived and worked there.
Day 3
Tatton Park, ‘Cranford’ and return home
Before you head home, we visit Tatton Park. The early 18th century house sits amid a landscaped deer park and is opulently decorated with a grand array of antiques and furniture. If time permits, stop off in neighbouring Knutsford, a delightful old market town that featured in two of Elizabeth ‘Mrs’ Gaskell’s best known novels, ‘Cranford’ and ‘Wives and Daughters’.
