China: Shanghai to Beijing
Experience the variety of wonders that China has to offer; from the history of the Great Wall and the Terracotta Warriors to modern and cosmopolitan Shanghai.
The tour starts in exuberant city of Shanghai and enjoy the atmosphere of the great metropolis, where east and west collide. Head west to Xian where you will see the Terracotta Army of China’s first Emperor Qin Shi Huang in Xian. A trip to China would not be complete without seeing the famous Great Wall. The section of the wall at Gubeikou retains its original bricks and stones from two separate dynasties, Northern Qi Dynasty (550) and Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). Finally head to Beijing, China’s historical capital. After sightseeing in the city, you will visit Tienanmen Square and the Forbidden City.

Day 1
Departure
Fly from UK to Shanghai.
Day 2
Shanghai Arrival
Nimen Hao! Welcome to China. On arrival at Shanghai Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax or a first exploration of the city – perhaps get a taste of Shanghai’s eclectic food scene, which draws influence from far beyond China’s walls.
Day 3
Shanghai City Tour
Today join your leader for a walking tour that will take you to historical Shanghai. At the Bund you can get a taste of 1920s Shanghai, Explore the European-influenced French Concession, the area of Shanghai once designated for the French, consisting of today’s Luwan and Xuhui Districts.
Day 4
Xitang and Sleeper train to Xi’an
Get a taste of traditional China on a day trip to an ornate water town. Also visit the Yu Garden, an extensive traditional Chinese garden. Return to Shanghai and then board an overnight sleeper train bound to Xi’an.
Day 5
Xi’an Walking Tour
Arrive in Xi’an; take private bus Xian station to hotel. Today you’ll visit the the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a famous buddish pagoda, and the ancient city wall, surrounding the old city and one of the largest ancient military defences in the world.
Day 6
Xi’an – Terracotta Warriors
Today you’ll journey out in to the countryside surrounding Xi’an (approximately 2 hours) and visit what is undoubtedly one of the man-made wonders of the world – the Terracotta Warriors. Afterwards you’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, before visiting the Shaanxi Provincial Historical Museum. Return to Xi’an for you final evening in the city.
Day 7
Beijing
Today is a big day of travelling so grab some snacks for the journey. Transfer to the railway station and then board the high-speed train (approximately 6 hours) to Beijing. When you arrive you will transfer to your hotel.
Day 8
Beijing – City Tour
Today you will make our way to the centre of the city – Tiananmen Square. From here you will enter the enormous Forbidden City then you can visit the Jingshan Park. In the afternoon you will also enjoy a Hutong Tour by Pedicabs.
Day 9
Beijing – Badaling Great Wall
Today you will visit the Badaling Great Wall, one of the most preserved sections of the Great Wall. On this day you will also visit the Beijing Jade carving factory.
Day 10
Return to UK
Following breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
