Day 1
Arrive in New York
Land in New York. You will be met and the airport and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy an evening at leisure in Manhattan.
Day 2
Manhattan: Union Square and NoLIta
Head to Union Square Greenmarket. Tour the farmer’s market at your own pace and learn about seasonality. Watch some cooking demonstrations or tickle your taste buds with samples by some of New York’s hottest local chefs. Take the subway a short distance to the neighbourhood of NoLIta. Fall in love with Manhattan all over again as a 2 hour food tour leads you through NoLIta’s streets. Stroll along as you savour sweet and savoury specialities from around the world. Day 3
Chelsea and Brooklyn
Visit Chelsea for a stroll on the High Line. Once a railroad, the High Line has been converted into a public park from which you can enjoy beautiful views from a quiet oasis. Then explore the Chelsea Market at leisure. This urban food court features more than forty-five vendors purveying everything from soup to nuts, wine to coffee, cheese to cheesecake. After lunch, cross the East River and visit the world’s largest organic vegetable rooftop farm: Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm. Day 4
Philadelphia
Today, enjoy a city tour of Philadelphia. Perhaps visit the Independence Hall, a redbrick building dating from 1732, where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United Sates were both signed. View the Liberty Bell – one of the most evocative symbols of the country. Make a stop at Reading Terminal Market where over one hundred merchants offer fresh produce, meats, fish, artisan cheese, ice cream, baked goods, and specialty and ethnic foods. During a 2h walking tour, further your cultural and culinary knowledge of the famous 9th Street Italian Market. Taste samples of locally made food while the history of these famed markets and their rise in popularity is recounted.
Day 5
Washington D.C.
Today, transfer to Washington D.C. For lunch you will enjoy another exciting culinary and cultural food tour experience through the district of Georgetown, where high end cuisine meets famous landmarks. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to explore this fascinating city. Perhaps visit the monuments to several U.S. Presidents or enjoy a museum at the Smithsonian Institute.
Day 6
Amish Country and Hershey’s
Journey to Amish country and enjoy a guided visit of an Amish farm and farmhouses which will enable you to understand the habits, lifestyle and history of this community. Enjoy a typical Amish lunch before travelling on to Harrisburg. Learn about Mr. Hershey revolutionising the process of making milk chocolate at Hershey’s Story on West Chocolate Ave.
Day 7 - 8
Departure
Transfer to the airport in New York for your overnight return flight to the UK.
There’s a certain charm to each season in this area of the USA, and no particular time to avoid. It’s up to you whether you fancy balmy sunshine in the spring, autumn’s colours or if you’re hoping to see New York in the snow. For the best balance of sunshine without humidity and crowds, perhaps try April or May.
