The Lord Mayor’s Parade
In 1215 the King was persuaded to issue a Royal Charter that allowed the City of London to elect its own Mayor with one important condition: Every year the newly elected Mayor must leave the safety of the City, travel upriver to the small town of Westminster and swear loyalty to the Crown. For the past 800 years this tradition has been kept alive and is now known as the musical & vibrant, Lord Mayor’s Parade.
There’s plenty going on for the Lord Mayor’s parade, the day starts with the River Pageant. The glorious Thames Barges set off from Westminster at 8.30am and Tower Bridge will open in salute at 9.25am. The procession will set off from Mansion House at 11.05am, stopping at the Royal Courts so the Lord Mayor can swear allegiance and then return to Embankment at 1pm. The procession arrives back at Mansion House just after 2pm. The day then concludes with fireworks on the river at around 5.15pm.
Afterwards, head back to the hotel.
