Our hotel is located next to Coventry train station, making it the perfect for a self-drive group tour.
Once we arrive in Coventry we travel the short distance to St. Mary’s Guildhall. Here we enjoy a Cream Tea followed by a guided tour. St Mary’s Guildhall has acted as the centre of power in England during the War of the Roses, housed the crown jewels, been the prison of Mary, Queen of Scots and hosted famous literary figures, such as George Eliot. Visitors can see the newly unveiled medieval kitchen, one of the best preserved in the country. In the stunning Great Hall, the famous Coventry Tapestry still hangs in its original spot after 500 years. We then return to the hotel in time for dinner.
Day 2
Lord Leycester Hospital and Warwick Castle
Lord Leycester Hospital is a historic group of medieval timber-framed buildings dating from the late 14th Century. In the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, the buildings became a place of retirement for old warriors who had fought in the Elizabethan era wars. These soldiers are known to this day as the Brethren and with the Master, still live within the walls of the building. One of the Brethren will be your tour guide.
Next we unleash over a thousand years of jaw-dropping history at Warwick Castle. Spellbinding storytelling and exhilarating experiences make Warwick Castle one of the most exciting historic locations in Europe.
Day 3
Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Return Home
Follow in Shakespeare’s footsteps in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon, hear tales of his family life and see the workshop where his father ran his prestigious trade as a glove-maker. Visit the Famous Beyond Words exhibition and wander through the gardens enjoying the sights and smells of flowers that Shakespeare wrote about in his plays. Get up close to objects from the Shakespeare Birthplace’s Trust world-class collections as you discover how the extraordinary playwright continues to shape our lives today. Return to Coventry and continue your onward journey home.
