Day 2
Saltaire, Keighley and Worth Valley Railway and Haworth
This morning we travel to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire. Opened in 1853, this industrial village and textile mill takes its name from its founder, Sir Titus Salt, and the River Aire, which runs through it. Today, Salts Mill and the village are home to many independent shops and galleries. Leaving Saltaire we take a steam train ride on the picturesque Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, the setting for the 1970 film ‘The Railway Children’. The hilltop village of Haworth is internationally famous for its connection with the Bronte sisters. We visit the Bronte Parsonage Museum where Emily, Charlotte and Anne wrote most of their novels. There’s time to explore the village’s many tearooms and bookshops.
Day 3
Skipton and Bolton Abbey
Today we head for Skipton, the ‘Gateway to the Dales’ for a relaxing cruise on the Leeds Liverpool Canal. Afterwards, there’s plenty of time to explore this charming market town with its famous 900 year-old castle and historic cobbled High Street. We continue to Bolton Abbey, best known for the famous Priory ruins, and a landscape full of history and legend. Walk along the riverside and woodland paths and enjoy local produce in the many tea rooms and cafes.
