Day 1
Travel to your hotel
Arrive at your hotel in the Borders and relax before dinner.
Day 2
Edinburgh and Scottish Borders Diesel Train Journey
After breakfast, travel to Edinburgh by coach where you will be met by your Mercat tour guide for your Royal Edinburgh and Palace of Holyroodhouse tour by foot. Afterwards, choose one of the many eateries within this fabulous city to enjoy afternoon tea, browse the shops or simply people watch the world go by. Return back to the Scottish borders on the newly reopened Borders railway from Edinburgh Waverley Station, which is the longest domestic railway for more than a century. Your diesel train journey will take you through fabulous countryside that has been untouched for almost half a century. Your coach will meet you and transfer you back to your hotel, with time to freshen up for your evening dinner.
Day 3
Traquair House, Melrose and Floors Castle
After breakfast, why not drive to Traquair House the oldest continually inhabited house in Scotland, which is over 900 years old and a pleasure ground for Scottish Kings and a refuge for Catholic priests. You may prefer to visit Melrose, the richest Abbey in Scotland and Abbotsford which was home to Sir Walter Scott. The afternoon’s highlight is a visit to Floors Castle at Kelso which is home to the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe. What ever you choose you will be sure to have a Royal welcome.
Day 4
Return home
After breakfast start your journey home, why not stop off at the Gretna Green Visitor Centre.
