Lake Bled; Slovenia’s beauty encapsulated
If Ljubljana’s beautiful bridges, fountains and cobbled streets weren’t charming enough, you can also visit Lake Bled. Lake Bled is picture perfection. Soak up festive cheer in this dreamy fairytale location. A hilly but manageable walk takes you up to the rocky outcrop where another castle perches, offering a spectacular vantage point. View the majestic lake and surrender to the scenic lure of the Alpine setting. In the centre of the lake is a church, painstakingly built upon an island, providing yet more storybook charm.
Also, Bled hosts a Winter Village and a festive promenade beside the lake. Nestled in the mountains these Christmas stands are an unusual way to capture some festive spirit. Furthermore, visit the largest permanent Nativity Scene in Slovenia. On display at the public lido, lights illuminate the Christmas crib to a background of music. The full-sized nativity scene is a delightful addition to your trip.

Day 1
Arrive in Slovenia
Upon arrival in Slovenia, transfer to your hotel in the charming capital city of Ljubljana. If time permits, begin exploring. Perhaps settle in with a hot drink at one of the riverside cafes or sample the local wine? Slovenia’s viticulture predates Roman influence – unlike many other European countries so they know what they’re doing! Very little is exported so take this opportunity to try their delicious produce.
Day 2

Why not start your day with a stroll around this gorgeous city. Be sure to pass over the iconic Dragon Bridge! Awarded the title of European Green Capital in 2016, this is a peaceful city with a myriad of history to explore. Head up the funicular to view the castle. Explore the exhibits and perhaps enjoy a tour to unearth local tales and the city’s fascinating history. Climb the stairs to the top in order to enjoy a breathtaking panorama of Ljubljana.
A truly beautiful city, be sure to stroll past the many stunning buildings. Stop in to admire the St Nicholas Cathedral – a vision a pink marble and white stucco. Admire its bronze doors which are masterpieces, one featuring portraits of Slovenia’s bishops and another depicting the country’s history. If you like Rome, you’ll love the Robba Fountain, also known as the Fountain of the Three Carniolan Rivers inspired by Bernini’s masterpiece (La Fontana dei Quattri Fiumi). Though a small city, Ljubljana is packed with fascinating elements such as these.
Christmas Markets
Why not save the markets until the sky begins to dim and the stalls glow. Wander among the twinkling stands and shop for authentic and unusual Christmas gifts. Treat yourself to delicious food and drink and embrace the festive merriment and cheer!

Lake Bled
There’s a reason Lake Bled is so popular – it is absolute perfection. Few places in the world conjure this dreamy serenity and fairytale enchantment. In winter, the lake is tranquil and the lake may be a sheet of frozen glass dusted with snow – what could be better?
Take the time to simply enjoy this wonderful place. Stroll around the lake, or perhaps climb a short way up one of the paths in the hills to take in the whole view at once. Potter around the Winter Village in Bled, where the stands offer festive gifts and typical food and drinks from the Gorenjska region. There is also an ice rink and a full-sized nativity scene to enjoy. Throughout the season there are special events and performances to thrill and delight visitors.
While you’re here, don’t forget try Bled cream cake, which is undeniable deserving of its popularity!
