Day 1
Cruise from Portsmouth overnight to France
Travel to the historic, naval port city of Portsmouth and board your Brittany Ferries vessel. Relax into your cabin or perhaps head up to top deck as you sail out of Portsmouth. Your ferry departs approx. 20:15 and cruises across the English Channel to France overnight. Whilst on-board, why not take advantage of the fantastic facilities offered on your Brittany Ferries ship. Select from a choice of dining options, including a la carte restaurants to a buffet with choices for all. Enjoy a drink in one of the bars and watch the live entertainment, catch a film in the cinema or visit the shops offering a selection of souvenirs, perfumes and liqueurs.
Day 2
Discover St Malo
Rise early and enjoy the scenic arrival into the port of St Malo, sailing in amongst picturesque islands and the historic old town ramparts. Docking around 08:15 (local time), the city of St Malo is only a short walk or drive from the port.
The most visited place in Brittany, St Malo has a long history of seafaring and was the home of the navigator Jacques Cartier, who discovered Canada. Take a walk round the city’s walled ramparts, visit one of the town’s museums dedicated to its maritime and naval past or discover the Gothic Cathedral. Large parts of the city were conscientiously rebuilt after WW2, but the city retains its medieval charm with a warren of streets in its historic centre.
Enjoy lunch in one of the harbour-side, seafood restaurants, with catches of the day coming straight from the port. Make sure you sample the regional specialities including ‘galettes au blé noir’ (savoury pancakes made with black flour) or ‘Moules marinières (mussels in a creamy white wine sauce). Wash these down with a glass of the traditional local Breton cider or indeed a Kir Breton.
In the evening, return back to the port and board your Brittany Ferries vessel for your overnight sailing back to Portsmouth. With the ferry departing St Malo at 20:30, why not enjoy dinner on-board as you cruise back over the English Channel to Portsmouth.
Day 3
Arrive back in Portsmouth and return home
With your ferry due to dock back into Portsmouth at 07.45, perhaps enjoy breakfast in one of the on-board restaurants before disembarking your Brittany Ferries vessel.
